Minister hopes for speedy progress on new nuclear power plant
Economic affairs minister Maxime Verhagen hopes that a new nuclear power station will be built in the Netherlands as soon as possible, Nos tv reports.
He made the comment during a visit to radioactive waste processor Covra on Monday, the broadcaster says.
A second nuclear reactor will make the Netherlands less dependent on imported energy, Verhagen said. Nuclear power is also a logical choice if environment-friendly methods fail to generate enough electricity.
Two applications to build new nuclear power stations are currently in the works, one from Delta and one from Essent, which has since been taken over by German firm RWE.
