Free entry protest gives Blijdorp zoo record visitors

Some 46,500 people visited Rotterdam’s Blijdorp zoo on Sunday following the decision to grant free entry to visitors who sign a petition against city council cutbacks.

Rotterdam wants to cut the zoo’s subsidies by €3.7m over three years.
The Friends of Blijdorp action committee says it now has just under 100,000 signatures on the petition.
