Auditor may investigate natural gas cash spending

The government auditor’s office is considering launching a special investigation into how the government has spent €3bn earned from natural gas sales, the Financieele Dagblad reports.

Since 1995, 40% of gas sales income has been placed in a special fund, known as the FES. The money should have been spent on improving expertise and innovation and on infrastructure.
But, the paper says, there is evidence that not all the funded projects meet the criteria and that different ministries have used the money to supplement their budgets.
