VVD MPs unconcerned by new minister’s dual nationality

MPs from the right wing Liberals VVD say they are not concerned that one of the new government ministers has dual nationality and holds two passports.

Junior health minister Marlies Veldhuijzen van Zanten-Hyllner was born in Sweden and holds Swedish and Dutch nationality.
MP Geert Wilders has said he is to call on the minister to renounce her Swedish nationality at next week’s debate on the new government. He believes dual nationality means the minister has divided loyalties.
‘We do not see any problems,’ a VVD spokesman told reporters.
VVD leader Mark Rutte and CDA leader Maxime Verhagen were both aware the new minister has dual nationality.
Wilders and several VVD MPs led an attack on two dual nationality ministers in the previous government. One had a Turkish passport, the other a Moroccan one.
