Utrecht city council cuts the cake

Utrecht city council is being forced to cut spending so much that the traditional birthday cake given to retired civil servants is to be scrapped.

Some 600 former civil servants are given a birthday cake to celebrate every five years. The cut will save €10,000 on the annual budget of €1.3bn, the AD reports.
