Earnings at troubled newspaper group Wegener continued to slide in the third quarter of this year, with sales down 7% year-on-year, the Financieele Dagblad reports.

Excluding divestments and takeovers, sales fell 3% the company said. Wegener has sold its stake in the AD Media group.
Turnover from regional newspaper advertising sales fell 2% while local freesheet advertising was down 11%.
Profits up
Nevertheless, net profit was up ‘strongly’, the company said, thanks to higher operating profit and lower costs. The workforce has shrunk by nearly 600 over the past year.
The company is also embroiled in a management crisis following the sudden departure of CEO Joop Munsterman.
Senior staff are opposed to the replacement brought in by parent company Mecom.
