The Netherlands faces serious shortage in qualified workers

The Netherlands faces a severe shortage of well-educated workers, in particular IT specialists and technicians, the Telegraaf reports on Monday, quoting a number of experts.

The experts, including the personnel chiefs at IBM, Siemens and Xerox in the Netherlands, have written to the government and MPs calling for action.
The shortage will mean companies are forced to use less qualified staff, the business leaders and academics say in their letter.
And the trend towards freelancing means firms will have to do more to keep the talented staff they have.
‘The Netherlands will be hit much more quickly and harder with the shortage of staff, compared to our surrounding countries,’ the letter states. ‘The demand for qualified personnel will boom after the recession is over.’
