Speed limit plan impossible on all but a few roads, says motoring lobby

The government’s plans to increase the motorway speed limit to 130 kph will only be possible on a few roads, according to motoring organisation ANWB.

The ANWB, which backs the rise in principle, says noise and pollution issues will make the increase impossible in many areas.
Its research shows only the A2 between Utrecht and Den Bosch, the A12 from Utrecht to The Hague and the A4 from The Hague to Amsterdam are suitable.
In addition, on two-lane motorways there is a real risk of extra traffic jams forming, the motoring lobby group says. This is because of the difference in speeds between lorries and private cars and the effect of extra braking.
