Home nurse not guilty of murder after 23 years

A woman jailed in 1987 for six years for killing an elderly patient while working as a home nurse has been cleared of murder.

The appeal court in Den Bosch ruled there is no evidence that Ina Post strangled the 89-year-old woman in order to steal bank cheques.
Last year, the high court ordered a retrial because of doubts about the original guilty verdict.
Post, the last person to see the elderly woman alive, gave a statement admitting to the killing but later retracted it, saying she had been under police pressure to confess.
The court ruled that while the confession had not been extracted under excessive duress, there were inconsistencies with the facts and that Post had psychiatric problems.
