Dutch advised to stay indoors in Ecuador

The Dutch embassy in Ecuador issued a warning to Dutch nationals in the country on Thursday night to remain indoors, the Dutch press reports.

The Ecuador police took to the streets on Thursday for a mass demonstration against president Rafael Correa who plans to scrap their bonuses. The president fears a coup and has declared a state of emergency.
The embassy has 380 Dutch nationals on its register, all of whom received an email about the situation. The advice is to stay indoors, put the car in the garage, bring inside any possessions and stay alert.
According to the Telegraaf, a KLM plane heading for Bonaire is on the ground at Ecuador’s main airport, waiting for clearance to leave. The airport was occupied by the army for a time, the paper said.
