Don’t visit Ecuador, warns foreign ministry

The foreign ministry issued a warning on Friday to Dutch nationals not to travel to Ecuador. It follows the warning from the Dutch embassy in Ecuador for Dutch nationals in the country to remain indoors.

The Ecuador police began mass demonstrations on Thursday against president Rafael Correa who plans to scrap their bonuses as part of his austerity measures. The president fears a coup and has declared a state of emergency.
On Thursday Correa had to be rescued by soldiers from a hospital visit when the building was surrounded by policemen.
