Christian Democrat chairman calls for unity

CDA chairman Henk Bleker used a tv show on Wednesday night to urge party members to accept the fact that the party will form a government with the right-wing VVD with the help of the anti-Islam PVV.

‘At ease friends,’ Bleker said, after being asked about the number of promiment party members who opposed the alliance.
Now the CDA congress has decided to accept the support of the PVV it is a question of ‘not looking back, but looking forward,’ he said.
According to the Telegraaf, the two dissident CDA MPs, Kathleen Ferrier and Ad Koppejan were summoned to appear before party leader Maxime Verhagen on Wednesday to explain comments they had made on tv on Tuesday.
The duo told a tv talk show they still opposed the deal, despite voting for it, and wanted to ‘unmask’ PVV leader Geert Wilders. Wilders had apparently told Verhagen to intervene.
According to Nos tv, the two have promised not to make any more critical comments.
Support for the CDA almost halved at the June general election and it has fallen still further in the polls following weeks of bitter infighting about the involvement of the anti-Islam party.
