Betuwe freight only railway takes off

Some 350 freight trains a week are now using the cargo-only Betuwe railway from Rotterdam to Germany’s Ruhr district, operator Keyrail says in Monday’s Volkskrant.

Almost 65% of goods between the port and Germany are now carried by train and next year some 400 trains a week will use the track, Keyrail says.
In the long term, Keyrail, made up of Rotterdam and Amsterdam port authorities and NS unit ProRail, hope 900 trains a week will use the track.
