Wilders 'can say what he likes' at Ground Zero

Friday 10 September 2010

PVV leader Geert Wilders is free to say whatever he likes during Saturday's protest at plans to build an Islamic cultural centre two blocks from Ground Zero in New York, CDA leader Maxime Verhagen said on Thursday evening.

Verhagen, who is caretaker foreign minister, will listen to the speech and will distance himself and the CDA from remarks which go too far, Verhagen told Nos tv.

Liberal leader Mark Rutte said he would not listen to the speech and was not worried about it. 'If Wilders goes too far, the VVD and CDA will distance themselves, but we should be a bit relaxed about it all,' Rutte said.

The three parties are hoping to resume their efforts to form a right-wing government next week.

In contrast, the President of the United States of America, states he feels very concerned about effects on national security can have these acts against religious freedom.
Is the difference between a statesman concerned about real interests of people, and small leaders only concerned on their alphabet puzzle; CDA, VVD... xyz.
The real danger it can bring to our national security by Wilders provocations, who cares? And what is our real benefit with Wilders provocations? Does they bring us security for foreigner investment? I do not think so.

Well Wilders has the guts to stand up to the world at least, not like the others hiding behind the hedge....

I hope he does his usual facist ranting. Then maybe the rest of the world will see how low Holland has become!

By Quest | September 10, 2010 5:12 PM

Geert Wilders doesn't speak for every person in Holland. It doesn't show what Holland has become, it shows how Wilders thinks.

Wilders has no place at Ground Zero on Saturday. It is a day for remembering the dead and what happened, not for stiring up hatred. His presence is an insult to the relatives of those who died, whose day has been hijacked by Islamophobes.

Good on you Shirley..Then I assume you gladly live in a muslim community & share their lifestyle! Well, not everyone is happy about Nehterlands & the rest of Europe becoming Islamic..Wilders is a voice for us who are awake!!

Incredible that one of the most popular Dutch politicians at this moment is in the league with Pastor Jones. Indeed how low have the Dutch sunk. There are many other better and more effective ways of addressing the immigration problems that turning to plain hatred and bigotry.

A shame for the United States that there are so many Americans opposed to this mosque. The whole world will see how intolerant the US has become.

By pepe | September 11, 2010 6:26 PM

Uhm, I'm from Holland and we have not become 'low'... Please do not think all Dutch are like Wilders.

By Marijn | September 11, 2010 10:43 PM

@pepe
American is the most tolerant country in the world. There are over 100 Mosques in New York City alone. No one has an issue with them. But a "Islamic Cultural Center" in this location is like a "German Cultural Center" beside Auschwitz.
9/11 saw mankind at its worst,-the Islamist terrorists.
9/11 also saw mankind at its best, those heroic NYC firefighters.
If you want to see intolerance, live in ANY Islamic dominated country.

Then you will realize why anyone who values liberty want to move to America.
Ask any Iranian who has immigrated to America.
The very idea of America is a melting pot. No matter where you came from.
You become American. That is tolerance.

Why do we so worry about European Islamization? The fact is if people feel which religion is suit to them, so let them choose. Why Wilder so worry about it. Dutch citizens are not stupid. They are educated.

I find it odd that he seems to be able to find the time to fly to the USA when he is supposed to be helping organising a new government.Holland has been without government for 3 months now and we have all got to wait for Wilders to get back before things start again?

By jason buttle | September 12, 2010 12:23 PM

If all we cared about were democracy, Freed, would be right. Let the people choose - where there is a majority of Muslims, as there will be soon in some european cities, let them do away with western liberties as they wish. But democracy is not the whole question. What Wilder stands up for is the right of a free people to stand up and stop the advance of an anti-liberal political ideology, hostile to individual freedom, from undermining our societies from within. No western person can possibly object to this proposition in principle. The only question is whether enough people will have the foresight to see such a danger in Islam before the balance of power swings irrevocably.
