Turn of twitter, Opstelten urges people close to formation

Friday 10 September 2010

Former cabinet negotiator Ivo Opstelten, who is expected to lead talks on forming a right-wing cabinet next week, has called on politicians to 'turn off twitter' and allow peace to return to the formation process.

His comment came as a senior VVD official criticised the way the queen's new negotiator Herman Tjeenk Willink was doing his job, using the microblogging service.

Opstelten had talks with Tjeenk Willink on Friday morning. Tjeenk Willink will now write a report for the queen about the current state of play in the formation talks.

Tjeenk Willink has been looking at the chances of talks to form a stable government involving the VVD, CDA and anti-Islam PVV actually succeeding.

PVV leader Geert Wilders is quoted as saying in the NRC that a couple of hefty obstacles still need to be overcome. The commonly-held perception that the agreement can be finalised in five minutes is wrong, Wilders said.

'Turn of twitter'. Libertarians people have always sought clarity and light. And those who conspire against them, dark and secret agreements.
I think it was a slip of Opstelten. And what Opstelten really was meant is, 'turn off' citizens freedoms, democracy, and Dutch values, in return of having a prime minister of VVD in the Wilders cabinet.
