Sharp rise in addiction rates

The number of people addicted to alcohol has risen by 12,000 over the past 10 years while the number of problematic cannabis users has doubled to 8,800, national addiction monitor Ladis confirmed on Friday.
Last year, some 72,000 people asked for help with dealing with some sort of addiction. Just 4% were gamblers and 3% had problems with eating or prescription medicines.
The number of heroin addicts has fallen by 2,000 to 12,000 over the past 10 years.
