Right-wing MPs want to deport 'violent' Antilleans
Monday 06 September 2010
A narrow majority of MPs support sending Antilliean nationals convicted of violent crime back to the Caribbean islands, the AD reports on Monday.
The right-wing VVD Liberals, anti-Islam PVV and Christian Democrats have come out in favour of deportations following a number of violent incidents involving young men from the former Dutch colonies.
This weekend, a 23-year-old man from Rotterdam was shot dead during what the AD describes as an 'Antillean party'.
Job
The three parties say Antillean nationals should only be allowed in to the Netherlands if they have a job or are planning to study. As soon as there is a new cabinet, the parties say they plan to raise the issue formally.
'We do not need problem youths who make no contribution to society,' VVD MP Paul de Krom is quoted as saying in the AD.
