Prince and prime minister to address UNWednesday 22 September 2010 Crown prince Willem-Alexander and princess Máxima have joined caretaker prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende on his trip to the United Nations in New York on Wednesday. They will attend the meeting on the Millenium Development Goals introduced by the UN in 2000 with the aim of eradicating world poverty by 2015. Progress so far has been disappointing. Balkenende will give a speech to the assembled world leaders on death in childbirth and equal rights for men and women. He will also address the general assembly on Saturday to talk about the role the UN can play in changing global relationships. Clearly it's a waste of my taxes to have them swan over to the UN. For a start, Balkenende is a CARETAKER PM and so should not be addressing the UN on behalf of the Netherlands. Secondly, why is Maxima going if Willem-Alexander is the one addressing the UN and not her. Is she starting her Christmas shopping early with should cheap deals in the stores of New York? By cp | September 22, 2010 6:15 PM Absolutely right. No country has sufficient input capability to eradicate world poverty. And that is key reason to do it in teamwork. Cause it is no possible in any other way. By zenplus | September 23, 2010 12:39 PM

What a laugh, we can't even aradicate poverty in Holland or any other EU country by 2015 let alone the world, no country has sufficient input capability to do this. It just shows how detached and disconnected they really are from the real world, of course, maybe the Prince would like to donate his inheritance tax savings that he and the Queen has recently decided that they do not have to pay, that would make a reasonable kick-off fund for sure! Talking is one thing, doing is something that only a few people actually carry out, maybe Willem will be the first one to act?
