New cabinet to spend millions on new roads

Wednesday 29 September 2010

The new government has agreed to spend hundreds of millions of euros a year building new roads, the Telegraaf reports on Wednesday.

The paper says the draft coalition agreement includes a commitment to increase the current road budget from €3bn a year to €3.5bn in an effort to cut traffic congestion.

In addition, the new government plans to cut spending on the public broadcasters, integration programmes for new immigrants, defence and development aid. It will also lift the ban on smoking in small cafes, the paper says.

The paper does not say if it has seen a copy of the agreement, which has been kept tightly under wraps and will be handed over to MPs from the three parties for their views on Wednesday.

It is impossible find more nonsense and silly measures. They say we have a problem with integration, so the best solution for them is less resources for integration. They say we have a problem with healthcare costs, so the best solutions is increasing number of passive smokers at cafes.

They should spend the money on rail and tram links not roads. They have lost thge plot and where is the green in ROAD?

Lifting the smoking ban (only in small cafes) is about allowing people personal choice. How can that be a bad thing?

Hmmm...kill off all the immigrants with cigarette smoke.

Imaginative policies at least...

"It is impossible find more nonsense and silly measures." I wholeheartedly agree. I feel a little dirty for 'wishing' that the new coalition will far apart, but all of their plans seem so contradictory to, what I thought, was the philosophy of this wonderful country.

As ever, little or no encouragement for public transport. New roads = more private traffic = more jams = more tax from petrol.
