Some 510 jobs are to go at the Abbott pharmaceuticals firm in Weesp with the abolition of the company’s research department, news agency ANP reports.

he production unit, which has a workforce of 1,000, is unaffected. Abbott took over the Weesp plant from Solvay last year. The department, which focuses on developing vaccines, is being shifted to the US.
The company’s other eight operations in the Netherlands, with a combined workforce of 2,400, are not involved in the revamp.
The closure is the second blow to the Dutch pharmaceuticals industry in three months.
In July, US group Merck announced it is closing the research and development department at the Organon plant in Oss and moving it to America.
