Dutch tanker carrying pig manure explodes in Germany

Wednesday 08 September 2010

A Dutch tanker with 20 tonnes of pig manure on board has exploded in the German city of Cologne splattering a number of houses and cars, news agency ANP reports, quoting a German news site.

According to local fire officials, the manure had become too warm, creating too much pressure in the tank and eventually bursting a glass panel. The manure was sprayed over a large area.

´I was in the kitchen and suddenly there was no more light coming through the window,´ one resident told the site.

Some 30 fire officers were involved in the clean up operation and some houses will have to be repainted.

According to the Telegraaf, the Netherlands exported some 700,000 tonnes of manure last year of which 80% went to Germany.

Is Nederland finally taking the initiative in continuing WW2 and attempting to get Dutch bicycles back from their neighbors?

Revenge is a dish best savoured cold, not warm. But it'll make a start in reperations for grandma's bicycle.

Like the comments on the pig manure blast -
both Dutch and Germans have great senses of
wry humor, I think. Let's hear more WW2
stories from Europe, esp. the funny ones !

Anyone else a big fan of Missy Vasilchikoff,
who wrote, "The Berlin Diaries". I read that she died - are her brother and sister still alive ? Theirs was one of the most
interesting stories to come out of Germany in WW2, I tho't. They were White Russians who went to Berlin and Rome, hoping to get jobs - how they survived makes fascinating reading.
