Ajax lose first Champions League match to Real Madrid
Amsterdam football club Ajax lost their opening match of the Champions League 2-0 away against Real Madrid.
The Dutch papers were unanimous in their verdict of the match: Ajax, without star striker and captain Luis Suarez was ‘without a chance’ against the Spaniards.
‘This was a very good lesson, you could call it an initiation ceremony’ Ajax coach Martin Jol said afterwards. ‘It was a match between the men and the boys.’
