Motorists back breath tests and non-motorway speed traps

Some 99% of drivers think random breathalyser tests to check on drunk drivers are useful and 77% think there should be more of them, according to a poll of 10,000 drivers for the traffic police department.

Some 92% support monitoring traffic lights for people who drive through red is beneficial and 91% back controls to make sure motorbike riders wear helmets.
But while seven out 10 people polled support speed traps on ordinary roads, only 48% think they serve a purpose on motorways, the research showed.
Dutch traffic police often organise mass spot checks on drivers, stopping thousands of cars using particular roads and carrying out random breathalyser and other checks.
