Koolhaas building cancelled
Friday 20 August 2010
Plans to construct a 93-metre high building by top architect Rem Koolhaas in front of The Hague's central station were cancelled on Friday afternoon.
The €300 mln building would have consisted of three towers linked on the top floors and housing shops, houses and offices. It became known as the M from Koolhaas because of its shape.
Councillor Marnix Norder told NRC there were too many uncertainties around project developer Eurocommerce and that the company was making too many demands. In addition, the forecast for the office accommodation market is sombre, he said.

Thank heavens they've cancelled rather than postponed it. It was an ugly fat black spider building, placed directly in front of the station desecrating the beautiful, open grass space joining Central Station to Malieveld. An open space loved by all Haagenaars. The present skyline round Central Station is beautiful, and does not need an ugly black shadow throwing concrete bunker.
