Former judo champion Anton Geesink dies

Former world judo champion and international Olympic committee member Anton Geesink has died at the age of 76 after a short illness.


In 1961, Geesink became the first Westerner to take the world heavyweight title. He went on to win the Olympic title in 1964 at the Tokyo games by beating the Japanese favourite Akio Kaminaga. He was European champion 21 times.
