Amsterdam house prices rise slightly in Q2

Monday 02 August 2010

Average house prices in Amsterdam rose by 0.7% in the second quarter of 2010 but in the Netherlands as a whole, prices were down 2%, the national statistics office CBS said on Monday.

House prices also rose marginally in Haarlem, Enschede and Emmen, the CBS said.

Spokesman Senne Janssen said Amsterdam was not leading a recovery in house prices, which have been hard hit by the economic downturn. 'The housing market is more dynamic than in other regions, so the increase is a little stronger,' he said.

House prices in Amsterdam are still 5% down on pre-crisis levels.

Well the house prices are much over the real worth in Amsterdam anyway, I find it a dirty smelly city full of dropouts and druggies waiting to find their next victim to stealk from, that includes the shops and estate agents too! They need to drop by at least 30% to get back into the "realm of reality", not exactly beautiful views from any location, just stink and rat infested canals, I certainly never eat out there when I visit, its as bad a Venice, also rat infested and smelly.

I'm disappointed to read Andy's very negative comment- I live in Amsterdam on a canal and find it to be a beautiful city and very nice place to live (and eat out!).

Andy,
I am sorry to hear that you can not afford accomodations in our fair city. As an outsider I can see how you would have a scewed opinion as you do not live in Amsterdam. In the 3 years I have owned my home in Amsterdam. I have not encountered any of what you have mentioned. I am a professional not a dropout or a druggie. I have never seen a rat or smelled a foul canal..(Except for when a fish dies) If anything it would be a much better place if people from outside Amsterdam would stay home and not foul up the canals with litter and their bodily products. Feel free to stay where you are and not crowd our restaurants and dirty our fair city with you opinions.
