Tuesday’s World Cup semi-final match between the Netherlands and Uruguay was watched by a total 12.3 million people, making it the most watched tv programme ever, Nos tv said on Wednesday.

The 1998 semi final between the Netherlands and Brazil held the previous record, with an audience of 11.7 million.
Some 10 million people watched the match at home or with friends and 1.7 million people watched in bars, cafes and on big outdoor screens, Nos said.
