World Cup final does not break tv viewing records

Some 12,215,000 people watched Sunday’s World Cup final in the Netherlands, slightly down on the 12,270,000 who watched the semi-final between Oranje and Uruguay, according to Nos tv.

Some 10 million people watched at home or with friends and family while the rest saw the game in a bar or cafe or on a big screen, Nos said.
The slightly lower figure for the final against Spain is probably due to the start of the summer holidays, which means many people had left the country, Nos said.
The Netherlands has a population of just under 17 million.
The final did not lead to an increase in absenteeism on Monday either, according to health and safety organisation ArboNed.
