Two hurt as maintenance train ploughs through shop

A freak accident involving a maintenance train in the village of Stavoren in Friesland on Sunday night left two people slightly injured but police say it was a miracle no one was seriously hurt.

The train, which is used to maintain the rails, apparently ploughed through the buffers and hit an empty diesel truck which it pushed through a shop selling water sports equipment. The train and truck came to a halt on the square behind the shop after travelling some 100m from the rails.
Police say it will be several days before the damage is cleared up.
