Trains to get more standing room and ban talking

Dutch Rail (NS) is working on plans to increase the amount of standing room in double-decker trains and to ban talking in some sections, the Telegraaf reports on Thursday.

Trains will be divided into different zones, with ‘work and rest’ in the top deck and ‘meet and greet’ downstairs, the paper says.
The Telegraaf bases its claims on confidential NS documents.
Nevertheless, experts told the paper they have doubts about the practicalities, particularly during rush hour when trains are already full and commuters are forced to stand where they can.
The separation into noisy and quiet zones will also be difficult to enforce, the paper says.
