Public broadcasters, SBS fined for too many adverts

The media commission has fined the public broadcasting body NPO and commercial broadcaster SBS each €117,500 for broadcasting too many adverts.

Random checks showed both broadcasting organisations regularly broke the maximum 12 minutes an hour limit on advertising, sometimes by as much as five or six minutes.
NPO said broke the advertising limit when live broadcasts ran on too long, delaying advertising breaks until the next hour. ‘The maximum daily broadcast time has never been broken,’ a spokesman said.
