Nine arrested for market gardening fraud

Nine people have been arrested for their role in a money laundering and fraud ring focused on market gardening firms in Noord-Brabant and Limburg.

The group is suspected of earning tens of millions of euros through a scam to get round paying tax on the production and sale of strawberries, raspberries, asparagus and mushrooms, the public prosecution department said in a statement.
In total, 225 officials were involved in raids on premises across the south east on Monday. Files, computers, cars and a plane were confiscated.
The investigation also spread to Poland, Cyprus, Luxemburg, Belgium, Denmark, France and Switzersland, where files were seized but there were no arrests.
