Knighthood for Dutch coach and captain

Dutch football coach Bert van Marwijk and Oranje captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst have both been given a knighthood for their services to football.

The awards were made during a meeting with prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende and a number of government ministers on Tuesday morning.
‘Oranje was one, and the Netherlands was united behind the team,’ Balkenende said in a speech to the players. ‘Football was experienced as never before by supporters, as a collective, as a team.’
The team later had a meeting with queen Beatrix.
