Barbecues, smoking banned as extreme dryness ups fire risk

Barbecues and outdoor smoking have been banned in large parts of the countryside because of the strong risk of fire following the dry weather, the Telegraaf reports on Friday.

The fire brigade is also to step up its aerial surveillance in parts of north eastern Brabant where the risk is most serious. Parts of Overijssel, Utrecht and Limburg are also affected.
Defence ministry fire-fighting helicopters are also on standby, the paper said.
