VVD will not rule with Wilders because of senate problem: AD

The VVD Liberal party has ruled out forming a new coalition government with Geert Wilders’ PVV, the AD reports on Tuesday, quoting senior party sources.

A coalition with the PVV would be an impossibility because the party has no senators in the upper house of parliament, the insiders say.
This means the coalition would not be able to count on majority support for its plans. Legislation has to be approved by both houses of parliament to become law.
VVD leader Mark Rutte has always said he is open to forming a coalition with all parties.
There are 75 senators in the upper house. The political make-up is determined by the vote at the provincial elections and the PVV did not take part.
