Tax office to track down anonymous credit cards

The tax office is to focus on tracking down payments made by anonymous credit and direct debit cards which are linked to bank accounts in tax havens, news agency ANP reports.

This means the bank accounts have not been registered with the Dutch authorities and could conceal hundreds of millions of euros in illicit funds, the finance ministry said.
Tax officials are now in talks with credit card companies in an effort to trace the owners of accounts who have made payments in the Netherlands.
‘It is unacceptable that people can buy expensive items through a foreign bank account in full anonimity and try to avoid paying tax,’ finance minister Jan Kees de Jager was reported as saying.
