Equal opportunities commission criticises police job ad

An advert for a new senior police officer which explicitly requested women and people with a ‘bicultural’ background to apply breaks discrimination laws, the equal opportunities commission said on Tuesday.

The advert, placed in newspapers this weekend, also said: ‘The Dutch police force is striving for more diversity at senior levels. For this reason, this job is exclusively open to women and candidates with an ethnic minority background’.
The organisation said adverts are allowed to state preference will be given to certain people if all applicants are equal but that this advert means ‘the white Dutch male is not able to apply’ for the job.
No formal complaints have been made about the advert, Nos tv reported.
