Dutch start saving hard again

Wednesday 02 June 2010

Dutch savers added €1.1bn to their savings accounts in April, up from an average €800m in the previous three months, researchers from financial services group ING said on Wednesday.

And over 2009 as a whole, household savings grew by €12.1bn, the highest figure since 2001.

The increase in savings comes on the back of the reduction in consumer confidence and unease about personal finances, the researchers said.

What percentage of people actually increased here savings? Weathly people? Poor people? Or is this just the quartely bonus money for a selected group of bankers that decided maybe my porsche from 2009 is good for another year. Don't need a new one just yet.

I suspect this article refers to the bankers and politicians and other "bonused" special-case citizens. The rest of us have seen our savings steadily eaten up. Or its a new piece of propaganda from the ANP (state press agency).
