Amsterdam hospital throws a €2.8m party

Amsterdam University’s AMC teaching hospital threw a party for 10,000 staff last weekend costing €2.8m, the Parool reports on Monday.

The party, held at the Rai exhibition centre, involved performances by Marco Borsato, Karin Bloemen, Liesbeth List and Ali B as well as a fashion show by Mart Visser.
A spokesman for the AMC told the paper this was the first staff party organised by the hospital in 25 years.
‘Everyone has worked very hard over the past few years and it might be a paradox but we have also just completed a major cost cutting exercise,’ he told the paper.
The party comes at a time when the government is planning to slash health service spending, including on walking aids for pensioners and on dental care for 18 to 21-year-olds.
