Young drivers dominate road death tables

Half of the 1,500 18 to 25-year-olds killed in traffic accidents over the past 10 years were driving the car themselves, according to the national statistics office CBS.

One third of the over-25s killed on the roads were behind the wheel at the time of the accident.
Youngsters account for a sixth of all road deaths and young men aged 18 and 19 are more likely than other categories of drivers to be killed in a car accident.
The official age youngsters can get a driving licence in the Netherlands is 18, although there are moves to let them start learning at 17.
