Utrecht gets tough on street musicians

Utrecht city council is clamping down on street musicians following a growing number of complaints from locals, news agency ANP reports on Monday.

The council is to give 10 street musicians a three-month licence to perform in public. The rest will have to hang up their instruments, ANP says.
‘We are getting more and more complaints about musicians who hardly play but still ask for money,’ a city council spokesman said. ‘It is more like organised begging.’
