‘Tripoli crash survivor is Ruben, eight’

The sole survivor of Wednesday’s air crash in Libya is probably an eight-year-old boy from Tilburg called Ruben van Assouw, the Telegraaf reports on Thursday, quoting the child’s grandmother.

Mrs Van de Sande told the local Brabants Dagblad the she had not seen the tv images herself but that other family members had. ‘But it is difficult to be 100% it really is Ruben,’ she was reported as saying.
The foreign ministry has so far been unable to confirm the survivor is a Dutch child, Nos tv reports. The original claim was made after the boy was reported as saying ‘Holland, Holland’ and the name Ruben to doctors treating him.
Ruben, his brother Enzo, and parents had been on safari in South Africa to celebrate his parents’ copper wedding anniversary, the paper said. An aunt and uncle are being flown out to Libya as quickly as possible to try to identify him, Nos said.
The boy has multiple broken bones but none of his major organs are damaged. He is being treated in hospital in Tripoli.
