Royal family makes billions of euros profit

The Dutch royal family generates between four and five billion euros for the Netherlands every year, according to calculations by Tilburg economics professor Harry van Dalen, quoted in the Volkskrant.

Van Dalen’s research shows the national economy of monarchies have grown 1% more than republics or dictatorships over the past decade, the paper says.
Having a royal family promotes the Netherlands as a stable place to do business, Van Dalen said.
In addition, the presence of the queen on trade missions generates €200m a year, he said.
The Dutch royal family costs the state €40m a year, excluding the cost of security and maintaining palaces. According to some economists, the total bill is over €100m a year.
