New investigation launched into Enschede fireworks blast

A new investigation is being opened into the cause of an explosion at a fireworks storage depot in central Enschede which killed 23 people and destroyed a complete residential area, Nos tv reports.

The blast took place 10 years ago on May 13.
The new probe follows a statement by a family member of one of the SE Fireworks directors. He said the blast was an industrial accident because at least one person was working in the depot the day the explosion ripped the area apart.
Until now it had been assumed the depot was closed because it was Saturday, Nos says.
The interview is contained in a documentary which will be broadcast tonight.
