Neelie Kroes most popular choice for prime minister: poll

European commissioner Neelie Kroes is the country’s favourite choice for prime minister, according to a poll for tv current affairs show EénVandaag.

Some 37% of those polled thought VVD member Kroes, the current IT commissioner, is the best candidate while 30% opted for Labour leader Job Cohen. Current prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende was supported by 13%.
The EénVandaag report did not state how many supported VVD party leader Mark Rutte.
Some 54% of those polled said Kroes’ age was not a problem while 33% said she was too old to be prime minister. Kroes turns 69 this year.
