DNA test leads to arrest in unsolved 1993 murder case

Police have arrested a 41-year-old man from Hoogeveen in connection with the unsolved murder of a 15-year-old girl in 1993, the public prosecution department said on Monday.

The body of Andrea Luten was found in bushes by her father in May 1993, one day after she disappeared on her way home from school by bike.
One man arrested for the killing was found not guilty in 2002 after judges ruled eyewitness testimony was too unreliable.
The man who has now been arrested was picked up last year in connection with another violent crime – domestic violence according to the Telegraaf. His DNA has now been run through the police computers and proved to be a match with DNA found on the girl’s body.
