Cafe smoking ban backed by most

Some 72% of the population back the ban on smoking in cafes and bars, a 10% increase in support since February 2007, before the ban was introduced, according to a TNS Nipo poll for the Volkskrant.

But 48% support scrapping the ban for small cafes with no staff and 44% is opposed. The position of cafes with out staff is at the centre of a legal battle because the ban was introduced to protect the health of workers.
Earlier this month health minister Ab Klink said he is not planning to take any additional measures to makes sure cafes comply with the ban, even though an estimated 41% of bar owners now allow smoking on their premises
