Traffic deaths continue to decline

Some 720 people were killed in traffic accidents last year, 30 fewer than in 2008 and continuing a downward trend, transport minister Camiel Eurlings said at a road safety conference on Thursday.

But while the number of 30 to 60-year-olds being killed fell, more youngsters died in road accidents. More pedestrians were also killed.
The government has a target of reducing road deaths to 500 a year by 2020.
