Police open fire in prestigious Amsterdam store

Police have shot and injured a 28-year-old man who pulled a knife while being held for shoplifting in Amsterdam’s prestigious Bijenkorf department store on Thursday.

One eyewitness told the Telegraaf the man was leaving the store with suitcases full of stolen goods when the alarm went off. As security guards approached, he brandished a large knife.
‘There was a real panic. He was running around between the perfume and watch counters waving the knife,’ eyewitness Chiel Mannes said. Police then shot the man twice in the leg.
Although part of the store has been closed off, the rest is open for business.
