Heineken beer sales are down in first quarter

Heineken sold less beer in the first three months of this year, with the decline most notable in Russia, according to a trading update published by the brewing group on Wednesday.

Revenues declined 3.5% to €2.9bn, partly due to changes in the way the company consolidates its earnings. Like-for-like sales were down 2.2%.
However, the volume of Heineken sold in the international premium segment grew 6.7% to 5.7 million hectolitres, the company said.
In total, the company sold 23.57 million hectolitres of beer in the first quarter, down 5.3% on a year ago.
Heineken is the world’s third biggest brewing group.
